Castello Banfi - Culinary History - Etruscan Origins... __ About the cuisine of the ancient Etruscan civilization. "Much of what they prepared and consumed is reflected in modern Tuscan dining. And yes, they did have pasta. You will also find some interesting aspects of Etruscan history and custom. For example: "Incidentally, the Etruscan woman wasn't confined to domestic chores; she lead a remarkably free life. The modern feminist would find her a good example, so would mud wrestlers." - From Castello Banfi - http://www.castellobanfi.com/features/story_salute.html

Etruscan Art __ "In all studies of Etruscan art, it should be remembered that a large proportion of Etruscan art did not survive up until the present day. We read of the Roman destruction of Volsinii and the destruction of 2000 Etruscan bronzes which were melted down to produce bronze coins. As a result of this, we have a somewhat skewed perception of Etruscan art, in that most of the art that survives today is funerary art, and we form totally wrong impressions about the Etrusans as a result." Much of that wrong impression can be corrected in this website. Etruscan pictures - illustrated - From The Mysterious Etruscans - http://www.mysteriousetruscans.com/art/art.html

The Etruscan League of 12 Cities __ "According to legend, the Etruscan League of 12 cities was founded by two Lydian noblemen; Tarchun and his brother Tyrrhenus...Tarchun lent his name to the city of Tarchna, or Roman Tarquinnii. Tyrrhenus gave his name to the Tyrrhenians - the alternative name for the Etruscans." Click on a city name on the interactive to learn more about this ancient alliance of cities. - illustrated - From The Mysterious Etruscans - http://members.tripod.com/~Centime/Etruscans/cities.html

The Etruscan Liber Linteus__ "Back in the mid-19th century, Mihail de Baric resigned from the Hungarian army, went to Egypt, and bought the mummy of a young woman which would later be dated to the first century A.D. or so. The mummy itself, although interesting, was less interesting than the linen bandages which had been used to wrap it. They turned out to be a rather large text in the Etruscan language (how the text came to be in Egypt is unknown) and although largely untranslated, it seems that it is a religious calendar of some sort. You can see the entire 'book' in a series of photos and if you know any of the words, they want to talk with you." - illustrated - From Gabor Z. Bodroghy - National Museum of Zagreb - http://users.tpg.com.au/etr/etrusk/default.html
